Together We
Make A Difference

Our Mission

Our mission is two-fold: to assist international communities with dental care and education, and to open the eyes of our youth to the spirit of service. Our goal is to create a long-lasting impact that can positively affect future generations in international communities around the world.

Who We Are

One World Brigades is a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Julie Spaniel to deliver dental and medical services and education to international communities with limited or no access to healthcare, while providing volunteer opportunities and to college and high school students. Dr. Spaniel has been serving the people of Honduras and Ghana for more then 20 years, providing care to thousands of people. She has been bringing student groups to Honduras, Nicaragua, Ghana and most recently, Uganda, since 2010.

Our Team

Founder and Executive Director

Julie Spaniel

“I am only one, but I am still one. I cannot do everything, but I can still do something.” These words by Helen Keller perfectly capture Dr. Julie Spaniel's unwavering dedication to service. As the Founder and Executive Director of One World Brigades, Dr. Spaniel is on a mission to inspire young people to embrace the power of giving back while making a tangible difference in underserved communities.

Clinical Coordinator

Alyssa Duckworth

Alyssa has been the clinical coordinator for Dr Spaniel’s service trips for the last 6 years. Coordinating the supplies and equipment for trips to Honduras, Ghana and Kenya have been the highlight of her long career in dentistry. This important role takes all year and continues through the trips as she teaches our non-clinical volunteers their roles in our clinical settings. Teaching people how to take blood pressure and vitals in Triage or taking x-rays for the doctors are also “on the job” roles for Alyssa.

Secretary

Cherly Duval

Since my initial visit to Kenya in 1970, my affection for the country has only grown. When the opportunity arose to join One World Brigades in both 2023 and 2024, I eagerly seized it. Despite any doubts about the state of my nursing skills, I knew without hesitation that I wanted to be part of the team. Working collaboratively, we strive towards a common goal. These journeys have proven to be incredibly fulfilling, leaving an indelible mark on me. They nourish both my heart and soul, and I am profoundly grateful for the chance to contribute, however modestly, to the well-being of the people in East Africa.

We Couldn't Do This Without Our Wonderful Volunteers.
